Looks like you are using strathmore bristol board or watercolor paper? Have you experimented with Ampersand pastelbord? You may want to play around with the pastelbord, its very durable and you can scratch the hell out of the surface to make corrections without damaging the surface texture. You can also blend acrylics and gouache very nicely on it too. Plus you can varnish it and you don't have to stick it under glass to boot!

I do use strathmore ill. board (hotpress). I prefer as little paper texture as possible, so I'd have to check how the pastelboards feel. Something to consider though, so thank you.
